I give you this one to keep . . .
I am with you still . . .  I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not think of me as gone . . .
I am with you still . . . in each new dawn.

"BB King"

On October 27th, 2014, we set our BB King free. He was 14 years and 3 months old, and we never took a day for granted. He had so many nicknames given to him by the people he loved, and he loved everyone back so fiercely, because he really belonged to the world, from the time he was a young dog. He was our "BeeBopper," our "Mr. HappyHappyJoyJoy," our "Bob the Dog." He was "our first" in so many things, a special gift to us, from Blues and Audi, and Tommy and I are so grateful to our special friends who made so many things possible.

Irving Townsend wrote, "We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."

These amazing spirits, show us so well, that yesterday and tomorrow are just that, and today, this moment, is really all we have, so we better make the most of it. There are no would haves, could haves, or should haves for our dogs. Each moment is a perfect life time, filled with love and joy, and all for us. We were so fortunate to learn from BB.

It is said that life and death are twins, and that grief and hope walk hand in hand, and though grief is a blanket of darkness, it is followed by light, and our sorrow is embraced by comfort. Our home was filled with candlelight last night, and now he joins my evening tradition, that many of you have been a part of, for so, so long.

I know that many of you have read my favourite Hassidic tale, introduced to me so long ago. I need to share it with you now.

One day a Rabbi gazed through the window of his study which looked out upon the marketplace. People were hurrying to and fro, each attending to his or her own particular business. Suddenly the Rabbi saw a familiar face.

"Hikel!" he called. "Come in, I want to speak with you."
"Shalom, Rabbi, how are you?"
"Thank God, I am fine. Tell me, Hickel, what were you doing in the marketplace?"
"Oh, I'm very busy today. I have a lot of business to take care of."
"Hikel," asked the Rabbi, "Have you looked up at the sky today?"
"At the sky, Rabbi? No, of course not. I'm too busy to look at the sky."
"Hikel, look out the window and tell me what you see."
"I see people and horses and carriages, all rushing around doing business."
"Hikel, the Rabbi said, "in fifty years there will be other people in other carriages, drawn by other horses, and we will not be here. And, Hikel, in a hundred years, neither he marketplace nor this town will even exist. Look at the sky, Hikel look at the sky!"

Now BB is one, with the bluest of skies and the brightest of stars, and a part of my heart has travelled with him.

There will always be "Smiling Blue Skies."

Love and thanks to you all . . .

This is the story of Amanda and "Charger"

Amanda will be organizing the First Annual Smiling Blue Skies Walk to End Canine Cancer, in Guelph, Ontario, some time "early" in September, 2014 . . . Stayed Tuned for Updates!

Charger was diagnosed with lymphoma in December 2012, when he was 5-1/2 years old. Treatment began the next day, at the Mona Campbell Centre for Animal Cancer.

Charger was in remission for 8 months. Surrounded by people that loved him, Charger passed away on October 25th, 2013, one month after he and Amanda had participated in the 2nd Annual walk in Toronto, Ontario.

Charger was Amanda's world and after he passed away, she decided to honour his memory by helping Smiling Blue Skies in their quest to conquer cancer.
